Biggs orcas T19’s near Spieden Island

May 6, 2025 – We sailed north quickly on account of Biggs orcas, the T19’s (mother and her two adult sons), looking like they would come down President Channel. A pair of bald eagles watched as we cleared to Pt Caution and we got to motor sail through the Wasp Islands. Crossing to White Rock we met the 3 orcas traveling southwest towards Flattop Island (T18 presumed mother of T19 has been missing since last year). Taking the east side of the island while the orcas took the west side, a large number of harbor seals were hauled out in the cove and a bald eagle was busy in its nest. The orcas changed course north of Green Pt to head into New Channel. An abrupt stop and change in direction and we noticed Steller sea lions close to shore. They rounded Spieden Island before cutting through Sentinel Rocks and continuing southwest. It was time for us to return to Friday Harbor.
