Whale Listening

A ‘T’ party – Transient killer whale vocalizations with T49As, T36As & T99s

Transient Orcas (also now known as Biggs orcas) tend to be silent to gain an element of surprise in hunting marine mammals. However on occasion we encounter them being playful in a social group or when they have just finished hunting and need no longer be silent.

May 11th, 2026, Mummy Rocks, South Lopez. This recording of Biggs Orcas includes the T86A1’s, T86A3, T90’s, T100E, and T124A4’s with T46B1’s, T46C2, T123’s and T65A3. Sailing and drifting we dropped a hydrophone and the vocals were incredible. Playing and socialising in loose groups with orca breaches, tail slaps, and headstands. They slowly meandered through the rocks and islets of south Lopez Island coastline as the sun drifted toward the horizon
