Biggs Orcas T19’s treadmilling in Spieden Channel

May 18, 2025 – With a report of orcas turning east into Spieden Channel we sailed north as quick as we could. Arriving at Green Point we found the T19 family mid channel swimming against the max ebb current without making any headway. We tucked into the back eddy of the current passing the point in order hold a position and watch the orcas cycle through deep dives and surfacing. Stellar sea lions and two California sea lions also watched from afar keeping a safe distance close to shore. Bald eagle juveniles and adults were engaged in their own activity on the shoreline. We also spotted many families of Canada geese with growing goslings and a very young Mouflon lamb amongst the flock. We circled Spieden Island into New Channel and sailed back down San Juan Channel with second reef in the main sail for fun fast sailing.
