July 14, 2025 – Leaving Friday Harbor we headed north on the flood current with a report of Biggs/Transient orca T65A2 who had been milling alone for some hours at Turn Pt Lighthouse. Southern Resident J pod orcas were northbound from Lime Kiln, west side of San Juan Island. As we passed Green Pt into New Channel we heard T65A2 was doing 13 knots with his vocalizations audible in the air heading east in Boundary Pass. We soon heard why in that he met his family, the T65A’s, just north of Sandy Pt, Waldron Island. We changed course towards Flattop Island and passed the harbor seals hauled out at White Rock and met the T65A’s as they passed the cliff face of Pt Disney. Sailed parallel to them across President Channel with gorgeous views and the sound of blows as they came into Spring Pass. They had been traveling at 6-7 knots before zooming ahead and taking a hard left towards Deer Harbor, Orcas Island, where they slowed momentarily before going through Pole Pass. Our last view of them was as they passed over the reef of Bell Island heading east into Cayou Channel. We headed back with a gorgeous sunset.
