August 16, 2025 – This mornings report was of orcas coming in thru Thatcher Pass and heading down into Lopez Sound. With a strong flood tide we caught the back eddy to Turn Island before riding the flood north into Upright Channel. We came inside Canoe Island seeing the coastline of Shaw Island and crossing to Upright Head and the dramatic forested cliffs. Wrapping around Lopez we cut through Flower Island and the pass between Frost Island and Spencer Spit State Park. The Biggs/Transient orcas, the T109A’s, had wrapped around the bottom of Lopez Sound and were northbound where we met them at Trump Island. Sailing alongside we had some great views as they led the way home to Friday Harbor. We left them at Upright Head and stayed close to the Shaw Island coast popping into Hicks Bay to view the harbor seals.
