August 20, 2025 – Half day sail south to MacArthur Bank.We cast off from Friday Harbor and came inside of Turn Island spotting harbor seals hauled out and a bald eagle. Continued down San Juan Channel to Cattle Pass. On MacArthur Bank we had an encounter with humpback whale BCZ0345 “Victory – a humpback who has been hanging out in this area for at least a week now. Returned by way of Iceberg Point, Hall Island, Long Island and over to Whale Rocks to see the Steller sea lions and the roosting cormorants. Sailed near Deadman Island passing more harbor seals and up the channel to Turn Rock where we spotted a cute little sea otter. He/she has taken up residency in the Salish Sea and is often found by Bird Rocks on the east side of Lopez Island. Every now and again it hangs out by Turn Rock to our delight. We sailed back to Friday Harbor under the setting sun.
