July 7, 2018 – Dramatic skies and beautiful weather – a perfect day on the water. Simply gorgeous scenery and wildlife throughout our day. As we drifted through the Cactus Islands the harbor seals were resting all around us – some were on the rocks while others were sleeping on the bull kelp beds. Such peace and tranquility watching them rest in very large congregations. The harbor seal moms however, were busy raising their brand new pups. We made our way across Boundary Pass up to Blunden Island where we found a pair of black oyster catchers and a pair of bald eagle chicks. Four transient orcas in the T124A’s were spending some time Plumper Sound again as they had been doing for the past several days. We sailed with the whales cruising the stunning Saturna shoreline up to Java Rocks where we said good bye to the whales and checked out the wildlife enjoying life on the rocks. While looking for peregrine falcons at Monarch Head we were surprised to see an osprey fly by landing in nearby tree while calling out at the same time. As if the day couldn’t get any better, we went on to find more amazement at Skipjack Island. First time observing a bad eagle eating the placenta from newborn seal pup. Scattered on the smooth coastline there were more harbor seals than we could count. We continued on to Bare Island seeing more bald eagles and seals before soaking up the beauty of the forest and the sunset as our adventure came to a close.
