July 3, 2019 – Short sunset sail with transient orcas T65B’s with T65A2

July 3, 2019 – A 3 hour evening short sunset sail with whales.

As we approached Broken Pt on Shaw we began scanning for the Biggs/Transient orcas known as the T65B’s and her nephew, T65A2, who were reportedly heading our way from Wasp Pass. David and I sailed with these orcas on our earlier afternoon half day sail. Luckily for us they were still within our area for our evening short sail.

Ahh, we spotted the group of four orcas who first turned south down San Juan Channel against the strong flood, but on the next surfacing they were northbound.

The orcas double backed into the Wasp Islands before coming back out south of Jones Island and went west into the sunset. Great winds for sailing this evening. Dark, cloudy skies made the sail interesting as we wondered how the sky will look when the sun breaks beneath the clouds.

As we reached Point Caution there it was – the sun broke free of the clouds and rewarded us with a gorgeous sky as we rounded the corner for home.
