A half day sail to Salmon Bank and back

October 2, 2019 – Today we saw so many harbor seals, steller sea lions, harbor porpoise, white-winged scoters, common murres, cormorants, western grebes, and a couple of bald eagles. We were hoping the transient killer whales known as the T18’s would continue down the west side of San Juan Island to meet us, but unfortunately for us they bumped offshore and headed west towards Discovery Island south of Vancouver Island. As we sailed around Salmon Bank we listened for blows and scanned for whales. The exhales of harbor porpoise could be heard all around as a large pod passed by as we sailed slowly back towards Cattle Pass. The sea lions were especially goofy on our way back giving us a closer look as they swam by to examine us as they rolled around playing with one another.
