J pod traveling down Haro Strait

July 12, 2020 – With news of J pod Southern Resident orcas nearing Turn Point we made haste to meet them coming down Haro Strait. Taking the short cut through Mosquito Pass, passing Roche Harbor, we caught up with the trailing J pod whales who had stopped to forage offshore from The Centre for Whale Research. As we sailed away we met 17 year old male J39 ‘Mako’ as he made his way South.
Sailing the currents passed Kellet Bluff we circled to view two eagles nests. Some great views of the forest and harbor seals with pups on the shoreline. Through Battleship Rock and catching the counter-current sailing close to shore to Limestone Point. Passing Yellow and Nob Island before a fast close hauled sail back to Friday Harbor.
