Proposal sail

July 26, 2020 – Today we had a very special sail – a surprise wedding proposal… and she said yes!

We sailed north from Friday Harbor hugging the shoreline up to Pt Caution before sailing across the channel towards Shaw Island. Weaving our way around the rocks near the Wasp Islands and on to Low Island where many harbor seals were hauled out. Cormorants stood along the shoreline while black oystercatchers were engaged in foraging or watching out for bald eagles. We came around the west side of Yellow Island where many more harbor seals were warming up in the sunshine.

Winds picked up giving up a nice sail across Spring Pass towards Jones Island. Stunning views in all directions when we reached the top of the pass. Changed to a wing on wing sail as we hugged the Jones shoreline before changing course across the channel where family was waiting secretly for the big moment at Reuben Tarte Park.

As we got closer to the park we anticipated what had been in the planning stages for weeks. When we approached within a few hundred yards of shore he got down on one knee with ring in hand. She said yes and family cheered from shore giving away their presence.

Our passengers jumped into our tender and David whisked them away to the shoreline to continue the celebration with their family. It was an incredible moment that we felt so lucky to be a part of.  A beautiful sail we’ll always remember.
