Short sail in the fog

October 3, 2020 – With heavy fog surrounding the islands we cast off on a fun family adventure. Raised the sails and made our way out into the channel turning south towards Turn Island. A great blue heron watched for breakfast drifting by from the bull kelp bed he was standing on and a bald eagle watched the tide roll by on top of the Turn Rock channel marker. Many harbor seals were hauled out on the rocks regulating their body temperatures and getting some rest. Looping back around we came inside of Turn Island Pass finding another bald eagle.

Wing on wing we sailed across the channel to explore the coastline of Shaw Island. Several black tailed deer were foraging in the grasses and several ravens called from the trees. After reaching Pt George we cut back across the channel to San Juan Island with a nice sail back into the harbor with the help from our young passengers.
