Minke Whale circles Swirl Rocks

July 31, 2022 – A great wing on wing sail down San Juan Channel and out of Cattle Pass. Passing Goose Island with the cormorant rookery we noticed gulls with new chicks. Some nice views of the Steller sea lions on Whale Rocks and a bald eagle nest on Long Island. drifting passed Hall Island and harbor seals hauled out warming in the sunshine
Cruising along the Lopez Island coastline we scanned for minke whales. Super excitement spotting one minke circling and foraging in the currents that surround Swirl Rocks.  After some excellent views of the whale it was time to head back to Friday Harbor. Returning via Cattle Pass a bald eagle watched us sail by from the top of Deadman Island.
