July 18, 2025 – As we left Friday Harbor the Biggs/Transient orcas, the T36A’s, were northbound up President Channel after circling Crane Island and taking Pole Pass. We didn’t think we’d see them as they were too far ahead of us so we sailed and enjoyed the wildlife of the Wasp Islands and continued to sail north in some good winds. Also on our radar was a humpback whale near Battleship Island who may have taken Spieden Channel but disappeared. We came through Spring Pass and heard that the T36A’s had met up with other orcas, the T123’s, and were milling off Pt Doughty, Orcas Island. We stepped it up and met them socializing and heading towards Sucia Island. Ten orcas in all very playful and energetically swimming in circles with breaches, spy hops, and tail lobs. With the main sail at second reef and eased out we drifted enjoying the view. Returned with close hauled reefed sails down President Channel. An exciting sail.
