August 6, 2025 – We had a report of many orcas at Dungeness Spit and a group of 6 orcas in Victoria Harbor so we went south. Harbor seals were hauled out and bald eagles were roosting. Out through Cattle Pass hugging Goose Island side to clear the flood current. We looked for minke whales on Salmon Bank and off Eagle Pt and then decided to head north with news of the T109A’s who were in Victoria now coming through Discovery Islands. We also heard of more orcas at Skipjack Island headed southwest. We passed two minke whales north of Middle Bank and made fast progress on the fast current. When the T109A’s came offshore of Vancouver Island with some easterly course we changed course to meet them. Sailing alongside they headed through Kelp Reef toward D’arcy Island where we left them. A nice sail on the flood current over to Henry Island and through Spieden Channel. Sunset views on our way home were magical. The orcas who were at Skipjack Island had come down President Channel and eventually made their way into Friday Harbor but were a little ahead of us. The group by Dungeness had moved west to Port Angeles Harbor and numbered at least 24 orcas having a T Party. Beautiful day sailing with whales.
