Humpback Whale BCZ0345 “Victory” and a Minke Whale

Sept 22, 2025 – We sailed south today and with a decent breeze and an ebb current were able to tack our way down to Cattle Pass for some nice sailing. After viewing the harbor seals and a bald eagle at Deadman Island we came out to Whale Rocks to view the Steller sea lions. The sea lions were quite playful and we noted a tiny pup in with the large animals. Coming out to Salmon Bank we had some views of a minke whale (aka “Dent”) near the southern tip of the bank. We moved south to MacArthur Bank seeing a humpback whale, BCZ0345 “Victory” who was heading north looking for bait balls as the current passed maximum flood. We continued north coming in the east side of Long Island seeing many black oystercatchers both adults and this year’s chicks. Came in quickly on the flood current stopping to see the sea otter at Turn Rock with quite a number of Bonaparte’s gulls.
