October 19, 2025 – With strong gusty winds we raised sails with the main at third reef and headed north through a convergence one of blue skies to black skies. Tacked our way through the Wasp Islands and a close-hauled sail through white caps suddenly veered with the seas becoming calm. We motor sailed to New Channel where the T49A family of Biggs/Transient orcas were reported as hunting amongst gulls in the kelp beds of the Cactus Islands. Unfortunately, they disappeared five minutes before our arrival. We scanned the area however a squall came in diminishing our visibility. Moving to the Spieden Island shoreline we cruised the forested coastline and admired the changing light. Steller sea lions were on Green Pt and we scanned Spleden Channel with no luck. However, we did come across another family of orcas, the T37A’s, east of Limestone Pt. We sailed alongside as they caught the ebb out of Spieden Channel. Returned to Friday Harbor through a gorgeous dramatic sunset.
