A half day sail to Colville Island to see a humpback whale

August 9, 2017 – Leaving the dock we heard reports of a small humpback milling between Swirl and Colville Islands so we plotted a course to go south. The sea lions were getting into a tiff about something and mouthed off at each other for a bit. One looked under the weather coughing repeatedly and we could see his breath as he coughed. Continued on our journey passed Long Island stopping to see the eagles nest. Before we knew it we made it to where the whale had been and were lucky to get a nice pass as it went by. We had fun watching him/her circling in between the islands south of Lopez.
