Learning to sail and play a kelp horn

May 27, 2019 – Flat glassy conditions as we left Friday Harbor. Bald eagles watching the tide roll away at Pt Caution. We moved north quickly passing Yellow Island and passing close to the shoreline of Jones Island. Beautiful colors in today’s sunshine.

We drifted around Flattop Island and picked up some light air sailing where our young passengers learned to tack. Pigeon Guillemots were everywhere and later we spotted a rather large pod of harbor porpoise gathered near Green Pt.

Moseyed through the exquisite Emerald colors of the Cactus Islands, and made a kelp horn and kelp salad from the fresh new kelp bed. Drifted through New Channel before exploring the sunny south side of Spieden Island.

At Green Pt the winds picked up considerably and we had a fast sail through white caps back to Pt Caution.
