Summer sail with Reefed sails

August 8th 2019 – We sailed North taking advantage of the winds and currents to explore the coastline, experience sailing and search for whales. Switching from wing on wing to a beam reach we cut in between the Wasp Islands and saw many harbor seals hauled out on the reefs resting and warming in the sunshine. Continuing using downwind wing on wing sailing with a close pass to the shore line of Jones Island state park. We switched to a beam reach at the shoreline of Flattop National Wildlife refuge seeing a bald eagle rebuilding their nest. Continuing the beam reach we entered New Channel and saw many more bald eagles, belted kingfishers and harbor seals. Cutting through the Cactus islands to the edge of the kelp forests and Ripple Island Aspen grove before sailing East again to Gull Rock and White Rock. A bald Eagle on White rock watched us sail by on a good sail to the cliff face of Point Disney. Barbara found a Peregrine Falcon just a little East of Point Disney and we sailed the Southern forested shoreline of Waldron Island. Wrapping around to Bare and Skipjack Islands and while we reefed the mainsail a bald eagle flew over with a fish in their talons. A fast sail took us back to Spieden Island and we tacked to Flattop Island. In the lee of Flattop Island we took the mainsail to the second reef point before a fast sail home.
