Sunset sail to Whale Rocks

September 9, 2020 – Sailed South and drift sailed through Turn Island Pass where the harbor seals were resting and warming in the late afternoon sun. We took advantage of the tail of the ebb current to move quickly down to Sharks Reef where cormorants watched us go by. A bald eagle watched as we cleared Kings Point. Passing Deadman Island was idyllic and the resting harbor seals barely raised an eyelid. A Northern Flicker watched as we passed and harbor porpoise were in the current that took us out to Whale Rocks. Steller sea lions enjoyed the last of the days sun with some boisterous play fighting to ensure their seat in the sunset. The current spun around to begin the flood carrying us back up the the channel with some great views of harbor porpoise. A spectacular sunset as we came around Turn Island and back into Friday Harbor.
