Glassy seas in October

October 20, 2020 – We picked up our passengers from Orcas Island today and picked up some some light winds to sailing back out through the Wasp Islands and North through Spring Pass. Calm waters crossing to Flattop Island with quite a number of harbor porpoise along the way. We drifted the South side of Flattop where the harbor seals warmed and rested through the day on the honeycomb sandstone shoreline then we wrapped around the island where the geological fruit cake of formations stand out.
Scanning Boundary Pass we made our way to Ripple island dropping down through the kelp forests to the Cactus Islands, New Channel and Spieden Island. The sun brightened the day and the mirror calm waters reflected the forested landscapes. Harbor seals, cormorants and bald eagles shared their paradise with us. Coming out into Haro Strait we scanned for whales on the mirror calm waters that reflected the skyscapes. Steller sea lions were swimming in at tight group at Green Point. Sailing back to Jones Island we took Pole Pass and caught a nice breeze in the lee afternoon light to sail back to Orcas Island.
