Orcas T77C and T77D in West Sound again plus eaglepalooza on Cactus Island

July 2, 2021 – As we left Friday Harbor we raised sails and had a nice sail across to Shaw Island. Shortly after we got a report of two orcas in Massacre Bay deep in West Sound, Orcas Island. It happened to be siblings T77C and T77D. When we arrived the orcas were making their way out of the sound and headed toward Wasp Passage. After some nice views of the orcas we cut through Pole Pass hoping to see the orcas around the other side of Crane Island; however, they made their way south down San Juan Channel instead. We had other plans in the works to pick up a couple passengers who were part of the group on board on the northeast side of San Juan Island so we continued on our way. We sailed to Flattop Island where the bald eagle chick was sitting high in its nest and clearly visible. We counted 4 mom and pup seal pairs there, too. When we crossed to New Channel we could see some bald eagle activity on the tip of Cactus Island. We counted over 10 bald eagles hanging around engaged in eating something hidden behind the rocks. Crossed New Channel and hugged the Spieden shoreline to Green Pt and pointed into wind down the San Juan shoreline back to port.
