August 20, 2023 – We moved quickly north on account of a family of Biggs/Transient orcas known as T75B’s with T77D westbound in Spieden Channel. Luckily for us we caught up to them at Barren Rock just as they stopped for hunting. The orcas reversed course traveling east through Spieden Channel and hunted along the way on the shoreline on San Juan Island. We left them at Limestone Point to sail across the channel, but met them again briefly as they circled Jones Island. We circled Jones Island, too, with a peaceful sail back through the Wasp Islands while the orcas headed up President Channel. The air was smokey due to Canadian wildfires and a north wind blowing smoke our direction turning the sun hot pink.
