June 8, 2025 – After casting off we headed north in San Juan Channel. As we neared Neck Pt a report of orcas northbound near Kellett Ledge, south end of Lopez Island, came in. We spent a little time exploring the Wasp Islands and sailing through Pole Pass before setting a course for Peavine Pass. Strong winds out of East Sound gave us a fast sail, and the current through Peavine Pass carried us across Rosario Strait. The Biggs rcas, matrilines T124A2’s and T124D’s, had made fast time on the flood. We sailed alongside with Northerly winds and strong current as they zig zagged their way towards Lummi Island. We left them to sail to Lawrence Point and down to the Pea Pod Rocks. Many harbor seals were hauled out warming in the sun. From Obstruction Pass we had good winds again for a fast beam reach to Upright Head where we found a bald eagle and nest. While sailing across the flood current towards Friday Harbor a bald eagle circled before dropping to the water to catch a Rhinoceros Auklet and was able take off from the wear with the bird in its talons.
