Distant views of Biggs orcas T38C and T38E in the binos

June 19, 2025 – After casting off we headed south through Turn Island Pass seeing bald eagles and harbor seals hauled out. Came inside Griffin Bay to keep out of the flood current. After passing Goose Island and the cormorant rookery we headed out to Salmon Bank to scan for minke whales. A radio report came in about a pair of orcas T38C and T38E east in our direction from Middle Bank approximately 4 miles away. We moved quickly that direction and eventually found the orcas (no boats on scene) in the distance with binoculars. Saw two sets of surfacings and got within one mile of where we expected them to be but never found them again.  Other boats came in to help with the search but nobody was able to locate them. Very cryptic. The following day they were seen in Cayou Channel; however 10+ boats searching for them couldn’t find them. They were reported in the same location 2 hours later. We crossed Salmon Bank again and came into Whale Rocks to see the Steller sea lions. Returned by way of Deadman Island and the Lopez coastline. The kiddos on board helped sail us back to the harbor.
