June 20, 2025 – Sailed North crossing to the Wasp Islands between Shaw and Orcas Islands. There’s been a report of orcas Westbound from Orcas Island ferry landing so we meandered through the Wasp Islands to Jones Island with our eyes and ears searching. They had turned on their cloaking devices and were seen some two hours later Eastbound at the ferry landing and identified as T38C and T38E, two orcas who’d eluded us the previous day. We pressed on through Spieden Channel hugging the San Juan side to find the back eddies to the strong flood and met the T65B’s and T75B’s off Kellett Bluff heading North. They drifted slowly with a good view against the Henry Island shoreline. After clearing Battleship Island we sailed North and explored New Channel, drifting the forested coastline. Hearing that the orcas appeared to be hunting we doubled back to see them again engaged in hunting a harbor seal. We returned by Sentinel Island and the South side of Spieden Island riding the ebbing current back to Friday Harbor.
