2025 Wooden Boat Rendezvous followed by a sail around Sucia Island

Sept 2, 2025 – With fog to the south and a flood current we decdied to head north today. As we were sailing through the Wasp Islands we spotted a bunch of sailboats milling outside Deer Harbor so we sailed over ot take a look. We happened upon the 2025 Wooden Boat Rendezvous. It was rather appropriate for our classic 1956 wooden sailboat to briefly join in the fun. With whale reports slim we decided to head to Sucia Island today whilst scanning along the way. We enjoyed hugging the gorgeous north Orcas Island coastline passing several bald eagles up to Pt Doughty before crossing to Sucia. We weaved our way through the fingers and around the island spotting a river otter, harbor seals, great blue herons, belted kingfishers, a Northern Flicker, black oystercatchers with two growing chicks, harlequin ducks, surf scoters and four Steller sea lions at Clement Reef. On the north side we checked out the large bald eagles nest before crossing to Waldron Island passing harbor porpoise along the way. We crossed back to Jones Island and had a fun run back through the Wasp Islands before crossing to Friday Harbor.
