Sept 9, 2025 – Sailing out from Friday Harbor we came over to Hicks Bay on Shaw Island uncertain whether to go north, south or east. Heading north we came across two bald eagles with a fish on the coastline. Further along were two more eagles and a few harbor seals. We cut through the Wasp Islands and then heard a report of Biggs/Transient orcas northbound at Henry Island. Sailing from Jones Island to Spieden Island and catching the ebb tide west we met the orcas near Sentinel Island. The T99’s were on the south side of the channel and we stayed with the T36A1’s and T99B as they swam quickly to Green Pt and into New Channel. Some lovely views as they passed the Cactus Islands and around Ripple Island. We left them to head to Flattop Island passing harbor seals and a bald eagles nest before meeting the T99’s who were headed up President Channel. We left them for a southerly return through Spring Pass and back through the Wasp Islands. A perfect half day sail.
