Sail to Yellow Island Nature Preserve to see wildflowers in bloom

April 30, 2026 – After raising the main sail we found a nice breeze from the north for a close hauled sail across the channel. We tacked our way toward the Wasp Islands passing Shirt Tail Reef and the harbor seals of Nob Island. Sailed between Coon and McConnell Islands seeing a black oyster catcher and belted kingfisher. Anchoring in the South cove of Yellow Island to run ashore in the tender and walk between the wildflower bloom of Camas, Harsh Paintbrush, Death Camas, Chocolate Lily and more. Our return sail was a fast beam reach and brisk wing on wing. Reported to the stranding network our sighting of a deceased adult Steller sea lion off point caution.
