Wildflowers at Yellow Island Nature Preserve followed by Biggs/Transient Orcas T19’s near Friday Harbor

April 26, 2026 – Today we had a sail with a visit Yellow Island Nature Preserve. It was spectacular!  The wildflower bloom is just incredible! On our return to the harbor we heard that a pod of orcas known as the T19’s was entering Cattle Pass and coming up the channel towards Friday Harbor. We asked the passengers if they wanted to extend the sail to see orcas and it was a unanimous ‘yes’. So off we went beginning our orca encounter just offshore of Pear Pt. The group consists of mom, T19 (born ~1965) and her two adult sons, T19B (born 1995) and T19C (born 2001). The group was spread apart by about 1/2 mile. We first saw big male T19B. Eventually his mom and younger brother came into view further to the east abeam of Upright Channel. We stuck with the orcas until we reached Friday Harbor. A great end to a lovely sail!
