Orcas T49A1 with T49C plus T36A’s and T69D’s in Haro Strait

June 3, 2026 – After yesterday’s phenomenal number of Biggs/Transient orcas traveling eastbound in the Strait of Juan de Fuca – some of those 45 orcas should be somewhere today. Reports were of orcas near D’Arcy northbound, Sidney Island southbound and later Moresby Island eastbound. We sailed north as fast as we could using the current out of Spieden Channel and the back eddy to Turn Pt Lighthouse. Crossing to Moresby Island we met Biggs/Transient orcas T49A1 with T49C movng quickly to catch up with the T36A’s and T69D’s. We branched off for the T69D’s, another unfamiliar family to us (the 4th in about 2 weeks – although T69D2 was with the T60’s recently and wasn’t present today). As a rain cloud came in we steered around it taking the west side of Moresby Island before crossing to Turn Pt and returning via Johns Pass and New Channel. Fast current and a south wind took us from the Cactus Islands to Flattop Island. Lots of harbor seals on Flattop Island and bald eagles throughout the day. We returned to Friday Harbor via Spring Pass and the Wasp Islands.
