June 17, 2026 – With a report of Biggs/Transient orcas T123’s northbound from southern Rosario Strait we sailed across the channel to Upright Head. As we took the cut through Spencer Spit we heard a report of more orcas, the T124A2’s, northbound from James Island. So we changed course for Thatcher Pass and met them near Black Rock. Sailing alongside as they rode the edge of the current to the point giving us some lovely views. We broke away to see the T123’s however they took Guemes Channel in the wrong direction. So went to visit the gray whale CRC-2702 near Shoal Bight. From there we wrapped around the southern Lopez Island coastline with the splendor of Castle Rock and Blind Island. In McArdle Bay we noticed the active eagle’s nest now has a chick visible peering out of the nest. Many bald eagles two of which had prey in talons, harbor seals were hauled out, black oystercatchers, Steller sea lions, and fast moving current. A nice sail through Turn Island pass. A beautiful day.
