June 29, 2026 – With multiple groups of orcas northbound in San Juan Channel we hurried off the dock quickly. The lead group (the T123’s) were moving very quickly up the channel (close to 9 knots) and were almost to the top of San Juan Island, but the trailing group (T75B’s, T77D, T125A and T128) were just outside the harbor. It was perfect timing. We had some great views sailing parallel as the group traveled up the channel. We broke off near the top of Jones Island and had fun tacking into the wind with a close hauled sail back to Friday Harbor. Other wildlife seen included black oystercatchers, harbor seal with nursing pup, and harlequin ducks (all at Low Island) and a bald eagle.
