July 7, 2026 – Sailing north into the Wasp Islands we picked up a report of orcas, the T49A’s (minus T49A1 and T49A2) northbound at Lawrence Pt, Orcas Island. We picked up speed and hugged the coastline of Orcas Island following President Channel to Pt Doughty. We saw bald eagles with 2 active nests with chicks. From Pt Doughty we set course for Barnes and Clark where the orcas had been hunting. We changed course to head northeast when the orcas began travelling. Approaching Pt Migley, Lummi Island, we arrived on scene and watched as they passed a haul out of harbor seals. They continued north and we left them to head for Matia Island. Cutting through Puffin Island pass and hugging the Matia Island shoreline through the cut enjoying the honeycomb sandstone and harbor seal views along with another eaglet in a nest. The ebb took us down to Parker Reef with a bald eagle on the aid to navigation. Returning south by President Channel and at the Wasp Islands we met two more orcas, T77C and T77E. A Steller sea lion popped up by Shirt Tail Reef moments before the orcas arrived. With some lovely views in the mirror calm waters and lovely reflections before heading for home.
