August 20, 2026 – We caught the back eddy down to Turn Island where we met Biggs/Transient orcas T49A’s moving really quickly north on the flood current. Nice views against the Shaw Island coastline. They stopped to hunt near the beach at Yellow Island. We cut through the narrow channels of the Wasp Islands seeing the orcas again as they came around Reef Island. When the orcas took Pole Pass we left them to sail north to see Flattop Island National Wildlife Refuge. Here we found harbor seals, black oystercatchers and belted kingfishers. We sailed across to come through the gap by Ripple Island and the Cactus Islands before heading southeast back towards the Wasp Islands. We met the orcas again who had been east in Cayou Channel and turned back to the west. We left them south of Jones to sail back to Friday Harbor.
