September 20, 2026 – It was a foggy day, we went out to play, down by the sea. I stepped on board a pirate ship and the Captain said to me. “We’re going north”. Hugging the coastline enjoying the beauty of the ribbons of fog with the help of a radar. We sailed across to the Wasp Islands whereupon we had a report of orcas southbound at Barnes and Clark Islands in Rosario Strait. Harbor seals hauled out at Low Island. Great blue heron on Bird Rock marker. Common murres foraging. We changed course to the east cutting through Pole Pass and Cayou Channel. Passing Blind Island with its harbor seal haul outs we continued course towards Peavine Pass. We hoped to meet the orcas approaching here, however they changed course at Peapod Rocks to head towards Bellingham Channel. We sailed to northernmost tip of Cypress Island meeting the orcas, the T123’s, near the Cone Islands. After a couple lovely views with a Mt Baker back drop, we came back to the north following Cypress Island coastline seeing a number of harbor porpoise in the calm reflective waters. We rounded the top of Cypress to come close to Eagle Cliff before a lovely sail back to Friday Harbor.
