Birthday sail Friday Harbor to Monarch Head with Big Mamma Humpback Whale

50th Birthday sail for both passenger and myself. We were treated to meeting Big Mamma (BCY 0324). Big Mamma was the first humpback whale to return to the Salish Sea after 90 years of absence as the last Humpback whale was hunted at the beginning of the last century. She returns yearly with a new calf some every other years. A steady increase in population of about 9% a year is a good news story for our oceans. Nature has the power to heal when given the chance.
