Minke whale northbound in San Juan Channel

September 4, 2021 – After leaving the harbor we had thoughts to go south after hearing of a minke whale to the south in San Juan Channel. However, after we passed Turn Rock, another whale watch boat spotted a minke outside Friday Harbor going north. Bugger! We must have missed it. So, we came about and went north finding the minke just south of Yellow Island. The whale was a bit slippery and we lost sight of him after about 30 minutes. But, we got some nice looks at the whale. We continued north to New Channel where the water was glassy. Cut through the Cactus Islands and the pass by Ripple Island. Rain was coming so we offered rain gear and umbrellas to guests.  After a sail by Flattop Island we made tracks back to the barn.
