Sunset sail to Fisherman’s Harbor, Lopez Island

July 29, 2023 – Raised sails and sailed out of the harbor to Reid Rock. Catching the ebb tide and a Southerly wind gave us a fast sail to Turn Island. Drifting close to the shoreline seeing the light on the Juniper trees before rounding the Northern corner and passing the kelp forest of Turn Rock. Took advantage of the wind to sail quickly to Lopez and follow the channel into Fisherman’s Bay. Our passenger heard people shouting for help so I called in details on Channel 16, and quickly moved closer to the scene of an overturned Dingy with 2 people in the water. The people were making it over to an anchored boat who helped them aboard. We sailed back out the channel and found a helpful current on the Lopez shoreline towards Flat Point. We followed back eddies to the ebb along the Shaw coastline with a spectacular view of the sunset all the way before sailing back across the channel to Friday Harbor.
