March 28, 2026 – Biggs/Transient orcas, T36A’s (minus T36A1’s), T86A1’s, and T124A4’s) came into Friday Harbor about an hour or so before we cast off. When our passengers arrived on the inter-island ferry we traveled north quickly and met the orcas north of Johns Island. They had been zig zagging and moving quickly prior to our arrival and stopped briefly just as we arrived for a predation. We sailed alongside getting some spectacular views as they headed across the border to Plumper Sound. Spotting blows of two humpbacks we broke away from the orcas and met the humpbacks, BCX1068 “Split Fluke” and BCX1193 “Zig Zag”, at Blunden Island. We sailed parallel passing harbor seals at Java Rocks before moving ahead to Monarch Head to see the honeycombed cliff face. Sailed south to Sandy Pt and Pt Disney where we found a bald eagle and a red tailed hawk. We returned to Orcas Island via sailing thru Pole Pass to drop our passengers off. On our return to Friday Harbor under a stunning sunset, we found more orcas, T36A1’s and some of the T65A’s. The orcas were spread northbound in San Juan Channel. Our first sail of the year after dry dock maintenance – off to a great start!
