May 20, 2026 – Sailing south on the ebb current we came inside Turn Island seeing a great blue heron, harbor seals and a bald eagle. On Shark Reef we had a nice view of a bald eagle watching the tide go by. Black oystercatchers and harbor seals were hanging out on Deadman Island and Steller sea lions were on Whale Rocks. We continued sailing and drifting on the current along the south side of Lopez Island. We saw three different eagle’s nests – Long Island, Aleck Bay and McArdle Bay the later two were occupied by an adult bald eagle. We passed by the gray whale (ID# CRC2702) who has been hanging out in Shoal Bight the last couple weeks. A group of surf scoters was nearby. We returned through Lopez Pass and Spencer Spit State Park, to Upright Head and around Canoe Island.
