Stunning views of the T100’s orca family under Pt Disney

June 12, 2026 – With reports of Biggs/Transient orcas the T100’s circling Waldron Island coming back towards Skipjack Island and a humpback whale mother and calf pair heading Northeast up Presidents Channel we moved quickly in hopes of seeing them. Cutting through the Wasp islands and riding the flood current up Presidents Channel sunshine and fair winds helped us make good time. As we came close to Bare Island the orcas were on the move and the humpbacks were approaching Patos Island and we were not closing the distance. Luck was on our side as the orcas turned and came towards us. An exciting event as our passengers choose the company of whales to make a proposal. Jibing the sails we turned and sailed alongside as they came back to the Waldron shoreline. Lovely views against the cliff faces of madrone, cedar, Garry oak and Douglas fir. Rounding Point Disney was spectacular seeing them against the backdrop of the late afternoon light on the high cliffs reflected in mirror waters. As we were about to leave them they began to hunt so we stayed longer and saw two spyhops around the time of success in their hunt. Retuned via white Rock and Flattop Island national wildlife refuge and noticed that the pigeon guillemots with their high pitched whistles and large webbed red feet have returned to their nesting areas on the cliffs.
