Humpback whale BCX1800 ‘Gretzky’ followed by Orcas T100’s

June 18, 2026 – After departing Friday Harbor we sailed through the pass around Turn Island State Park where many harbor seals were hauled out and a bald eagle watched from the trees. We rode the ebb current south to Deadman Island passing more harbor seals before continuing on to Iceberg Pt where we met a humpback whale.  The tail flukes revealed it was the same humpback we had seen in Rosario Strait on June 8th known as BCX1800 “Gretzky”. The whale was on the move and showed off the beautiful tail flukes upon each deep dive. We broke away to head south to go see a family of orcas known as the T100’s (minus T100E) near Smith Bank. Stunning views of the orcas as they traveled northwest with a back drop of Mt Baker. The fast moving swirly flood current scooted us in through Cattle Pass and back up the channel with a fast run back to Friday Harbor.
