Sept 4, 2026 – Today we headed southeast with a report of Biggs/Transient orca T65A3 northbound in San Juan Channel. We saw the sea otter at Turn Rock and shortly after met the orca zooming north on the flood current. We sailed parallel up the coast of Shaw Island and branched off to enjoy sailing through the Wasp islands. Other orcas, the T49A’s, had come over the top of Stuart Island and were headed towards New Channel so we picked up the speed and set a course to meet them. We met them south of Reid Harbor while they were milling around before venturing deep into the harbor. We came back along the north coast of Spieden Island seeing harbor seals, belted kingfishers and bald eagles. Hugged the coastline of San Juan Island on our return back to Friday Harbor.
