September 5, 2026 – Following the track of Biggs/Transient orcas known as the T19’s we could see that they may come through Thatcher Pass from Rosario Strait giving us a chance to see them. So we kept our speed up with a fast sail on the ebb current to Upright Channel. We took the inside of Canoe Island and then over to Upright Head. There were a few pelagic cormorants roosting on the cliff face which we rarely see. Unfortunately, the orcas turned south into Lopez Sound, so after viewing the cliff face of Upright Head we turned to head back. Shortly after the radio reports suggested they may have turned north again and we decided to go for it. Coming through the pass at Spencer Spit we met the orcas taking the east side of Frost Island. After a brief hunt they continued north in the sunset light giving us some lovely views.
