September 6, 2026 – We left Friday Harbor a little earlier on account of Biggs/Transient orcas passing by including enigmatic, charismatic T63 “Chainsaw” with mom, T65, nephew T65A3 and friend T137A – 3 big males and one female. We met them outside the harbor at Minnesota Reef milling / potentially eating. They came around Turn Island and hugged the rocks to Pear Pt with lovely views. Pushing south against the current they slowed down and T65A3 beached off and made other plans as he flipped back northbound. We left for awhile to sail in the breeze and rejoined down by Cattle Pass. They gave a close pass at Goose Island cormorant and gull nesting site before pushing out passed Cattle Pt Lighthouse with a huge crowd gathered on shore watching. Leaving the orcas we sailed over towards Whale Rocks to see the Steller sea lions before making our way out to Salmon Bank. At the bottom of the bank we found a familiar friend, minke whale nicknamed “Dent”. Our first time seeing her there in quite awhile. We returned back through Cattle Pass on the tail end of the flood current enjoying BBQ supper with a pit stop to see the sleepy sea otter at Turn Rock. Steller day!
