Biggs/Transient Orcas T123’s with T124A4’s by Saturna Island

May 27, 2026 – A northerly trip today. We set sail towards the Wasp Islands where we found a bald eagle sitting near its nest and harbor seals warming up on the rocks enjoying the sunshine. We had been monitoring an orca report of the T123’s with the T124A4’s near Patos Island. After they wrapped around the island they began traveling southwest along Saturna Island. We put the idea to the passengers to extend our short sail to see whales, and they were all in. We moved quickly north getting some views of lots of harbor seals hauled out on White Rock and having a great sail towards Boundary Pass. The orcas stopped to hunt west of Java Rocks. As we got on scene we saw lots of lunging, tail slapping followed by a couple of orca spy hops. Great views. Our hydrophone picked up a couple calls. Eventually they continued their travel to the southwest and we changed course to the south. We cut through the gap by Ripple Island and the Cactus Islands. Another bald eagle was perched beside their nest and harbor seals milled about. As we came around Green Pt, Speiden Island, we found a small group of Steller sea lions rafted up in the water. On the island we spotted Canada geese with new goslings and some Mouflon sheep/rams foraging. Returned to Friday Harbor via the San Juan Island coastline.
