August 15, 2026 – An early morning report had Biggs/Transient orcas known as the T19’s southbound in Spring Passage. They traveled inter-island between Shaw and Orcas Island and as we casted off from Friday Harbor we plotted a course to meet them. We sailed over to Shaw Island and continued up Upright Channel and over to Upright Head where we got on scene. The trio traveled towards Obstruction Island but turned north into East Sound, Orcas Island. They spread out across the Sound until they reached the top of the inlet at which point they grouped up to come back south. We thought they may stop to hunt at the top but we did not observe any change in behaviour. We broke away to sail our way down East Sound tacking back and forth into the wind. We hugged the Shaw Island Coastline coming inside of Canoe Island before sailing across to Friday Harbor.
