Sailing to New Channel and Flattop Island

September 19, 2026 – Sailed North through the Wasp Islands between Shaw and Orcas seeing large number of harbor seals hauled out on the sand spit West of Yellow Island. Onwards to round Green Point into New Channel with a few bald eagles, harbor seals and belted King Fisher. After scanning Haro Strait for blows we sailed through Johns Pass to Scan the calm glassy waters of Boundary Pass until drifting through Ripple Island pass and the Cactus Islands. Great blue heron and harbor seals then Bonaparte gulls on route to Flattop national wildlife refuge. Here we found a river otter on the south slope as well as many more harbor seals. Fast close hauled sail from the Wasp Islands back to Friday Harbor.
